I believe that socialism is the right way to go, and before communist-bashers start rabbling, I AM NOT COMMUNIST, I AM SOCIALIST LIKE EUROPE, NOT USSR! You look at euroupe, with it's socialist-democracy and you see a great economey, democracy, and rules-based free market. On the totem pole of governments, from completely oppressed, to Liberaltopia, first is Despotism, then Facism, then Monarchy, then Fundementalism, then Communism, then Republic, then Democracy, then Socialism, then Liberal Democratic Republic. As you can see, socialism is quite liberal, but it's the good kinda liberal, not insane liberalism. I'm welcome to disscusion on the matter!

Socialism could be good if...
A) It guarantees everyone the right to a job, to make a living for themselves, and doesn't lead to massive unemployment.
B) There are no, ahem, "non-productive minorities" whose culture looks down on hard work and advancement and instead makes the majority of them turn to street crimes.
C) The government, the unions, and the businesses all work together for the mutual good of all instead of the unions and the government constantly flaunting their power over the businesses.
Europe's socialism fails on C (and from what I hear on A as well), any attempt in America would fail on B (take a damn good look at the ghettos of America, and you'll see nobody even trying to get out), as well as possibly on A and C. For Americans, who up until Bush's "war on terror" at least tried to give a damn about their own liberties, who hold social mobility as extremely important, capitalist democracy is better than socialist democracy.
